The “Companhia Agrícola da Barrosinha” goes beyond tourism it has agricultural activities, forestry and cinegetics, of which the highlights are the production of wine, cattle, rice, cork, pine cones and hunting (rabbits, hares, wild boars, partridges, woodcocks, snails and pigeons).
Founded in 1947, “Companhia Agrícola da Barrosinha, SA” has built a heritage that still reflects the activities of the past and its importance from a historical and cultural point of view, compreends two old rice factories of hulling / packing and production of rations, an old primary school, a canteen, a sawmill and mottleds.
While touring the homestead we can also find several of Alentejo hills, two chapels (Nossa Senhora da Conceição and Senhor dos Chagas), small vegetable gardens (of residents), winery and the village of Barrosinha, where former and current employees still living.
The landscape diversity, responsible for its richness of fauna and flora, it is largely due to the fact that it is covered by 8 km of Sado river and it is composed of rice fields, vineyard (100 ha), mountain range and a weir, each one with its characteristics and particularities.
